Waste Facility Closure
This practice applies to agricultural waste storage facilities that are no longer needed as a part of a waste management system and are to be permanently closed or converted for another use. County manure storage ordinance requires that any waste storage structure properly be abandoned when:
- An operation ceases operations or when
- Manure has not been added or removed from a facility for a period of 24 months
This practice applies to all types of structures; earthen, concrete, steel etc.
Purpose
• Protect the quality of surface water and groundwater resources.
• Mitigate air emissions.
• Eliminate a safety hazard for humans and livestock.
• Safeguard the public health.
