County Forest Firewood
Firewood Permits are available for county forest properties to Vernon County residents. Currently 2015 firewood permits will cost $15.00 per one (1) cord, with a limit of two (2) cords per applicant per year. One (1) cord is measured 4 feet tall by 4 feet deep by 8 feet long or 128 cubic feet of wood. It typically takes three (3) face cords to equal a cord.
Interested applicants must fill out an application including name, address, telephone numbers, as well as pay the applicable fee prior to cutting any firewood. Applicants receiving permits will not move any firewood of any species or type out of Vernon County, as Vernon County is currently under Emerald Ash Borer quarantine restrictions (ATCP 21.17). Permits are non-refundable, and must be in the possession of permittee when cutting occurs.
Firewood permits will typically be for dead or downed trees, but could be for live trees designated by County Forester (hazard trees, undesirable species, poor form trees, etc).
Off-road vehicle use is absolutely prohibited, so firewood permits are generally restricted to park areas, road ways, and parking lots.
