After back to back 500 year flooding events in 2007 and 2008, Vernon County was put under order from the WI – DNR to repair 5 large dams. It is anticipated that these repairs will be completed by the end of 2015. The total cost is estimated to be approximately $10 million dollars. The majority of the funding was obtained from Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), WI State Dam Safety (NR-335) and WI Stewardship dollars.

Most of the engineering services were provided free of cost by the USDA-NRCS and the WI-DNR. Staff administration and construction inspections were provided by Vernon County along with minimal cash outlay.
