P.L. 566 Coalitions

Vernon County is an active member of the National Watershed Coalition and the WI P.L. 566 Coalition.

One in 4 is located in Vernon County!  There are 88 P.L. 566 Flood Control Dams in Wisconsin.  Of these 88 Vernon County has 22 of them or 25%.  The WI Coalition is comprised of 13 counties that work together to secure state support and grant funding for dam repair maintenance and removal with our WI – DNR partners.  More State Dam Safety information can be found at: http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/dams/

The National Watershed Coalition provides avenues to gain federal support and funding for the ongoing maintenance, repairs and importance of the watershed program and the dams that are a part of them.  More info on the coalition can be found here: http://www.watershedcoalition.org/

Some southern states have significantly more dams for an example Oklahoma has over 2000.
