Historical Flood Pictures

Before flood control structures were built in Vernon County, flooding was not uncommon. These historical photos show some of the major damage caused by flooding. The value of having well maintained, operating flood control structures (dams) is incalculable.

Many bridges, barns, and other buildings were destroyed.
Chaseburg - 1954
A rainfall of just over 4 inches caused wide-spread destruction across most of Vernon County in 1954. This is downtown Chaseburg.
