Elderly To Receive 'Help' Paying Taxes
Proposal Is Pilot Program For 3 Years
MADISON, Wis. -- The Dane County Board has approved a plan Friday that will
help aging taxpayers make their payments.
The board approved the program called "Help" to assist those whose remaining tax
payments are due in July. A co-author said that he helped create the program
because too many elderly were struggling to pay their taxes.
"The treasurer, Dave Gawenda, who co-authored this with me, sees more people
coming to him who are in trouble, who want more time to pay their taxes or who
are plainly desperate to either save their home or move out and into a nursing
home," said Dave de Felice of the Dane County Board.
The program is slated to run as a pilot program for three years and will allow
those 65 and older to borrow against the equity of their home.
