Senior Dining Program

The purpose of the elderly nutrition program is to provide nutrition services to assist older individuals in Wisconsin to live independently, by promoting better health through improved nutrition and reduced isolation.

The Senior Dining Program was started in 1972 when the Nutrition Program for the Elderly allocated $100 million for a national nutritional program.   Overall funding for the program comes from a variety of sources including federal, state, local public and private, and participant contributions.  Participant donations are taken on a strictly confidential basis.  No one will be denied a meal due to his or her inability to make a donation.

Meal Sites have been established in many communities in Vernon County.  (See the complete listing on the following pages.)  Some Meal Sites are at restaurants. Others are in community centers, schools or senior housing units.  The meals being served have been approved by a dietitian ensuring that they meet one third of daily nutrition requirements for seniors.
