Health Check Screenings are offered at several health care institutions in our county throughout the entire year.  Screenings range from Stroke, Blood Pressure, Cholesterol, and a variety of others.  These screenings are offered at a minimal, if any, cost.  Check with the location most convenient to you about their screening schedules.

Preventive Health Services

Vernon County Health Department offers immunization clinics for influenza, tetanus, and pneumonia. They also provide health supervision visits that include blood pressure checks, medication monitoring, foot care, communicable disease follow-up and education.  Wisconsin Well Woman Program offers comprehensive breast, cervical and health screenings for women age 35-64 free to those eligible.

Active Seniors Program

A fun way for healthy and independent seniors age 65 and older to participate in a safe exercise program.  A physicians referral is required before you can begin the program.  Staff at the fitness center will show you how to use the equipment and create a fitness program to suit your needs!  There is a one-time enrollment fee, and a small fee each time you use the facilities.

 

Aquatic Program & Golden Splash

Water exercise classes including some designed for those people with arthritis to help strengthen muscles surrounding joints and relieve arthritis pains while exercising.  Other classes are just a fun way to stay healthy.  For more information call the Bigley Pool at (608) 637-1660

 

Fitness Choices

Viroqua Athletic Club is located within Viroquas historic Landmark Center .  Viroqua Athletic Club offers a variety of memberships and equipment to meet everyones needs.  Members pay a monthly membership fee for unlimited use of equipment and facilities specific to their type of membership.  For example a Walkabout membership is available at less cost than regular memberships.  Walkabout memberships are for those people who only care to use the all-season walking track and treadmills.  Personal Trainers develop an individualized training plan for each member focusing on their goals and current abilities.

 

Nature Path

The 4th grade of the Pleasant Ridge School in Viroqua built a nature walk as a class project. The walk is about a mile and a half long with shorter branches off the mail path. The terrain is maintained making it easier to walk and the path has no steep hills making it walk-friendly for the aging. It is located behind the VFW and is clearly marked by a large sign.

 

Cross Country Skiing

Curves for Women is designed with women in mind!  Curves for Women uses a simple exercise routine that builds cardiovascular and muscular strength at the same time!  Exercises are designed with client comfort in mind.  If an exercise is uncomfortable for you to perform, a friendly staff member will show you an alternative move that is more comfortable.  Curves for Women also offers monthly drawings, weekly door prizes, wellness incentives, and lots of flexibility!  Try a membership free for a week!  Just call!

Home Health/Personal Care

 Prescription Drug Programs                  

 

Wisconsin SeniorCare

SeniorCare is Wisconsin's Prescription Drug Assistance Program for Wisconsin residents who are 65 years of age or older.  There is an annual enrollment fee and minimal co-pay for each prescription. Seniors projected annual income will determine whether certain out-of-pocket expenses will also be required.

Medicare Part D

Medicare Part D is a prescription drug program that provides additional coverage to your current Medicare plan.  All seniors need to enroll to receive the benefits associated with the new program.

In cooperation with physicians, as a service to assist patients who have difficulty purchasing prescription drugs, sponsors have come together to provide prescription drugs at no cost.  These programs provide prescription medicine free-of-charge to individuals, regardless of age, if they meet the sponsors requirements.  Upon approval, your medication will be sent to your doctor and he/she will dispense it to you.

Medicaid

Medicaid is a program that pays for medical assistance for certain individuals and families with low income and resources.  This program became law in1965 and is jointly funded by Federal and State governments to assist states in providing long term care assistance to people who meet certain eligibility criteria.  Medicaid is the largest source of funding for medical & health-related services for people with limited income.
