The Land Information Office (LIO) is responsible for guiding the modernization of the County’s land records system. Digital (computer stored) aerial orthophotography was taken in April 2005 as an update to the original 1995 digital aerial orthophotography. The scaled photos are used extensively in several departments and on a wide variety of projects. Soils maps (USDA NRCS Soils maps) from 1968 have also been digitized and can be overlain on the aerial photos. Additional information which can be displayed on a map include:

*
highways/roads
*
streams
*
section lines
*
forty lines
*
municipal boundaries (township and city/village)
*
watersheds
*
voting districts
*
20’ surface elevation contours
Section corners, established in 1847, are being remonumented to the benefit of all neighboring landowners. Private surveys completed in areas with the new remonumented section corners cost less than half of those done where corner monuments are missing. To view the progress on the County’s Section Corner remonumentation, check out this map. Future projects include a digital E911 addressing map, tax parcel mapping, and FEMA floodplain mapping, among others. Click here for a copy of the Vernon County Land Records Modernization Plan (requires the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software available for download here).

Photos and maps can be purchased through the Land Information Office by stopping at either the Land and Water Conservation Department at 220 Airport Road (across from the Village Market) or the County Treasurer’s office (second floor of the courthouse).
Aerial photos can include any existing map information (as mentioned above), and any other created information (i.e. property boundaries, points of interest, etc). Approximate acreages and distances can be computed during the map generation process upon request. To order a map contact the Land Information Officer.

Any questions, concerns or comments about the Land Records Modernization Program or acquiring maps and digital information feel free to contact the Vernon County Land Information Officer, Danielle Oftedahl, at 608-637-5475 or by e-mail.
