Jersey Valley County Park

Jersey Valley is a 371 acre park near Westby.  The park’s most prominent feature is a 52 acre man-made lake formed by a large flood control dam on Peaceful Valley Stream at the headwaters of the West Fork Kickapoo River.  The lake is a popular fishing destination and is great for bluegill, crappie, perch, trout and largemouth bass.

Jersey Valley is also very popular as a day use park.  The beach, swimming area and picnic pavilion are used nearly every day during the summer season – from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  There is a very nice, and somewhat challenging hiking trail encircling the entire lake.  Most of the trail is in the forest and there are a few hills to climb.  There is also a narrow hiking trail on the lakeshore that originates near the fishing pier, and then goes north and east along the lakeshore.  This trail has some very nice access points for fishing the shoreline.  This trail is a work in progress, but as more people use it, it becomes more and more established.  There are plans in place to add an extensive mountain bike trail in the south and east portions of the park property.  In 2014 a concrete sidewalk and two accessible fishing decks were installed as part of an Eagle Scout project for Derek Johnson of Viroqua.  The project was a big success.

A second entrance to the park property is along Peaceful Valley Road.  This entrance has a parking area and a restroom, and provides easy access to the trail network.  It is also a great place to park when fishing in Peaceful Valley Creek, or in the more shallow backwaters of Jersey Valley Lake.
